How and Why You Learned to Program

Until and if I can find someone to do some real scholarship with the 1750 submissions (to date) at ilearnedtoprogram.com, I offer you a wordle and an anecdote.

That’s based on all the text submitted. Not all of the stories are published — some people didn’t provide a URL, some were trolling, and some I haven’t even read yet. But there sure were a lot more calculator stories than I thought.

Not that it’s terribly surprising to me, but it’s interesting that “Dad” and “Father” show up, but nothing about “Mom”.

    I take that back.

It just didn’t make it into the wordle.

I learned to program … because I didn’t want to sift through 1,750 submissions to my website.

Zing! I figured this was the minimum viable product — now that I know people want to share stories like this, I guess it’s time to get to work on an AI that reads them.
