Gridworld Games

For the past couple of years, I’ve done a Game of Fifteen assignment for my AP Computer Science class. I got the idea from Dave Wittry via his GridWorld Board Games site and also learned a lot from Cay Horstmann’s Extending GridWorld documentation. GridWorld is a great framework for building, well, anything that fits into a grid and it’s nice because it abstracts away the Java GUI code.

I’ve been looking at web standards stuff a lot recently, and just ran across a really cool board game in the context of an HTML5 canvas tutorial. It’s a variant of the game Halma and I think it would be a perfect for implementing in GridWorld. The playable game on the web page can be the functional spec and I’ll probably break down the programming tasks somewhat, similarly to what I did for the Game of Fifteen.
